Career/Technical Education
CTE programs give students a chance to explore careers that they might be interested in after graduation. They allow students to take classes that they enjoy and earn a credential recognized in their field. These programs encourage students to pursue these career-related options after they graduate, either in college or in the workplace.

Project Lead the Way
Biomedical Science

Brandywine’s Biomedical Science students find solutions to some of today’s most pressing medical challenges. They work with the same equipment and tools used by medical lab professionals. Biomedical courses begin in their freshman or sophomore year. There is an option of a 4th year independent study capstone course for interested students.
Through the entire pathway, students work together in teams to find unique solutions. They learn in-demand, career skills like critical thinking, diagnoses and written and scientific communication. In addition, students learn to use many of the most important biotechnology tools and techniques.
Level 1 - Principles of Biomedical Science
In this introductory course, students crack the case on the reasons for the deaths of fictional people. While investigating the cases, students read autopsy reports, investigate medical history, and explore medical treatments that might have affected the person’s life.
Level 2 - Human Body Systems
Students take on the roles of biomedical professionals to solve real-world medical cases in this class. Exploring science in action, students build organs and tissues on a skeletal Maniken®. They use data software to monitor body functions like muscle movement, reflexes, and respiration.
Level 3 - Medical Interventions
Students follow the life of a fictitious family as they investigate how to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. Students learn how to detect and fight infection. They screen and evaluate human DNA code. They evaluate cancer treatment options and learn what happens when a body’s organs begin to fail. They learn about immunology, surgery, genetics, pharmacology, medical devices, and diagnostics.

Culinary & Hospitality Management
At BHS, hospitality students learn using ProStart, a program created by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Students learn the management and culinary skills needed for a career in foodservice.
Students focus on safety and sanitation. They learn communication and management skills. They learn how to deliver excellent customer service. In culinary lab, students learn and practice cooking and presentation skills. They practice catering special events at school. Catering jobs give them valuable experience in real world situations.
Students may earn the ServSafe Manager certification as part of the program. The certificate is an important credential to have on their resumes as they look for a job after graduation.
Design & Engineering
The Design & Engineering Program at BHS consists of three courses with the option of a fourth course.
Students start with Engineering Tools and Philosophy. Students are introduced to skills related to digital design, precision manufacturing, and physical computing. This course offers a series of hands-on-minds-on design challenges.
Product Design and Development presents more complicated projects that begin to build students’ engineering habits. It focuses on design with humans in mind and encourages students to think about the user as part of the design process.
Engineering Team Practicum uses work-based learning by connecting students to real world clients. For students seriously considering a degree in Engineering, AP Physics C-Mechanics is offered in an optional fourth year. It takes an engineering project-based approach to physics and offers the possibility of earning college credit.
Early Childhood Teacher Academy
The Early Childhood curriculum prepares students for careers in education and child development. It teaches students to how to plan and implement learning activities for children. Students learn about safety practices, first aid, human growth and development, community and social problems, basic psychology, nutrition, special needs, program management, and professionalism. The program prepares students to continue their education in elementary or special education, physical or recreational therapy, social work, and pediatric nursing. Students may earn certificates in Training in Early Care & Education I & II upon completion of the program.
